Strategies for Building Relationships with Students in Poverty


On this episode of ASCD Learn Teach Lead Radio, authors William Parrett and Kathleen Budge discuss how to best reach students in poverty. Parrett and Budge explain how our cultural conditioning and expectations impact our ability as educators to help students in poverty, and offer up strategies for success.

William Parrett is the director of the Center for School Improvement & Policy Studies at Boise State University. Kathleen Budge has experience as a teacher and administrator, and is an associate professor of Educational Leadership at Boise State University. The two are co-authors of the new book Disrupting Poverty: Five Powerful Classroom Practices.
