Rethinking Underachievement: Helping Students to Level Up

How do you define underachievement; and more importantly, how to do tackle underachievement to raise academic performance for struggling students?  According to Jim Delisle, the key for initiating change is becoming people to students, and not just teachers.

Dr. James R. Delisle has taught gifted children and those who work on their behalf for 40 years. He retired from Kent State University in 2008 after 25 years of service there as a distinguished professor of special education. He is the author of Doing Poorly on Purpose: Strategies to Reverse Underachievement and Respect Student Dignity. Host Rachael George is the principal of Sandy Grade School in the Oregon Trail School District and an ASCD Emerging Leader.
