How to Make the Most out of Your Trip to Houston for #ASCD15

AC15_TipsWhen you attend ASCD’s Annual Conference and Exhibit Show, we want you to learn, share, and grow with your colleagues. We know most of you will be traveling from all around the country and even from around the world. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of activities to take advantage of in Houston.

For the Foodie

Do you love trying new restaurants with all kinds of different foods? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Houston is home to dozens of award-winning restaurants, diners, and cafes. Whether you’re in the mood for American, Mexican, Chinese, or Japanese there is a chair and a fork with your name on it. Whoops, I almost forgot to mention The Chocolate Bar! Who wouldn’t get excited about that? Check out the full list of Houston’s local food options here.

Pro tip: Be careful with your valuables, purses, and IDs when traveling, and never leave them unattended. At a minimum, make a copy of your driver’s license so that if you lose it on an outing officials can use the information to check databases.

For the History Buff

If checking out the local museums is more your speed, you’ll get your fill of history when visiting the Houston Museum District. The district is home to the nation’s sixth largest art museum, which consists of 300,000 square feet of paintings, sculptures, costumes, and more. The district also houses the largest emerald crystal ever recovered in North America, a kid-run city complete with a skyline, a government, and different job roles, and Houston’s first and only 4D theater. Plan your trip to the Museum District today!

Pro tip: Remove your name badge and ribbons when you leave the convention center or your hotel. These are signs you are from out town, and, even though you want to visit like a tourist, it’s best to blend in like a local.

For the Social Butterfly

If you’re looking to get social, Saturday Night Strikes: #ASCD15 Bowling Social is the place for you. Taking place on Saturday, March 21, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Lucky Strike Houston and sponsored by Follett, the #ASCD15 Bowling Social will give you the opportunity to socialize with other attendees, education experts, and ASCD authors. There will also be complimentary pizza, sliders, and bowling! RSVP now.

Pro tip: Just like you tell your students, be sure to use the buddy system. Check on your friends and colleagues periodically and agree on departure times.

We’re looking forward to seeing you in Houston! If you haven’t registered yet, what are you waiting for? Register now.
