Ah, summer camp.
When I was a kid, I went every year. I made friends, I learned new things, and I participated in awesome activities unlike anything I’d ever experienced.
This year, I have a chance to relive that camp experience, and I hope you’ll join me!
ASCD has helped my team and me create an incredible opportunity with a new summer academy called Connect 21 Camp: Becoming a 21st Century Teacher, Leader, and School. My colleagues and I, which include Heidi Hayes Jacobs, Silvia Tolisano, Janet Hale, Marie Alcock, Allison Zmuda, Bill Sheskey, Bena Kallick, and Earl Nicholas, have created a camp experience that hearkens the days of canoe trips and Popsicle stick crafts.
We’ve created a multilayered and individualized learning event that allows participants to choose their own professional development (PD) adventure and relive the glory days of awesome summer fun!
Our Connect 21 Camp offers participants the opportunity to create varied and diverse paths to enhance professional practice by choosing from a menu of workshops and action labs. All of our activity options offer avenues for participants to connect, create, and share awesome ideas.
As a sneak peek, I’d like to share how excited I am about a new session we’re offering on using green screens in the classroom. We’re going to be sharing some really cool apps and ideas for making movies and other digital learning products. We’re planning an initial session and a follow-up session where we’ll get to “play attention” and actually create something cool.
We’re going to be at the Gaylord National Conference Center in National Harbor, Md., just outside of Washington, D.C. It’s a fantastic space that we lovingly call the “Bio-Dome” because you don’t have to leave it! There are tons of restaurants and activities inside, and it is a great space to learn and play.
We’re so looking forward to sharing our Connect 21 Camp with everyone. It’s a brand new form of personalized PD with loads of built in time for processing, connecting, collaborating, and creating!
Pack your backpack and gear up—and don’t forget the marshmallows. Summer camp is cool again!
