#ASCD16 Preview: Special Events at the 2016 ASCD Annual Conference and Exhibit Show

2016 ASCD Annual Conference and Exhibit Show

#ASCD16 Special EventsJoin us for the special events that will take place at ASCD’s 71st Annual Conference and Exhibit Show, April 2–4 in Atlanta, Georgia. These special events, which include interactions with ASCD authors as well as social and networking activities, will complement the conference’s unrivaled range of professional development opportunities that deliver targeted content to educators of all backgrounds and interests.

On Friday, April 1, the conference will kick off with the first-ever Meet, Greet, and Off to Eat. At this event, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Georgia World Congress Center’s Thomas Murphy Ballroom, attendees will enjoy a wine and cheese reception with fellow educators from around the world. Then, immediately following the reception, groups of three or more educators can head to dinner and take advantage of restaurant discounts available exclusively to ASCD conference attendees. Attendees can view this map to locate participating restaurants.

On Saturday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., conference attendees will experience another first. Microsoft will sponsor the Networking Event: An ASCD-Exclusive Evening at the Georgia Aquarium. During this special event, the world-class Georgia Aquarium will be open only to ASCD conference attendees. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy refreshments, reconnect with colleagues, and meet new friends while coming face to face with thousands of fascinating sea animals.

There will also be events happening in the ASCD Center, located within the Exhibit Hall, throughout the conference. Highlights include the following:

  • Book Signings―In the ASCD Bookstore, conference attendees will not only be able to browse through a vast selection of ASCD publications but also get their books signed. A number of noted ASCD authors—as well as general session speakers Manny Scott, Carol Dweck, Mike Schmoker, Pedro Noguera, and Alan Blankstein—will be on hand for book signings.
  • Author Talks―Conference attendees will have the chance to meet some of their favorite ASCD authors and hear their personal insight on different topics.
  • School Improvement Forums―In the Whole Child Theater, attendees will learn how schools and districts are using the ASCD School Improvement Tool. This free online tool, which provides users with a comprehensive needs assessment, was designed to support the needs of educators committed to a whole child approach to education that will develop and prepare students through the shared responsibility of students, families, schools, and communities.
