Time.
It’s likely the one thing we all need so much more of, especially when it comes to taking a deeper dive into a much-needed professional learning experience. Even when we have the opportunity to attend a conference that enhances our practice, it can seem like we spend all our time rushing to attend one session after another.
What if you had a day to immerse yourself in learning a great deal more about one of three important subjects that were directly tied to the overall theme of a conference you really wanted to attend—a conference that started the very next day?
Back by popular demand, the Pre-Conference Institutes at ASCD’s Conference on Teaching Excellence give you the chance to enhance your professional learning even more. Take a deep dive into one of three important subjects that are aligned with the overall theme of this year’s conference: Ensuring student equity for all.
Every child deserves to learn in a safe and supportive school environment. In this interactive and engaging workshop, Amy Klinger and Amanda Klinger from the Educator’s School Safety Network share proven, effective, and low-cost strategies that can immediately be implemented in the classroom.
Childhood trauma expert Kristin Souers and former principal Pete Hall, authors of the best-selling and award-winning book, Fostering Resilient Learners: Strategies for Creating a Trauma-Sensitive Classroom, will discuss the role that trauma plays in the school environment; the importance of self-care for adults; the characteristics of a positive learning environment for all students; and introduce attendees to the “New 3 R’s” in education: Relationships, Responsibility, and Regulation. Learn how to create and refine a culture of safety for each and every student.
One of the biggest barriers to cultivating equitable classrooms and schools is the refusal of educators to directly confront how the very policies that they put in place perpetuate the status quo of inequity. In this workshop, Paul Gorski from the Equity Literacy Institute will help attendees learn the knowledge, skills, and principles of equity literacy and strategies for incorporating the framework into classrooms and schools.
Learn more about each of these pre-conference sessions and register now to attend one as well as ASCD’s Conference on Teaching Excellence, which starts the very next day!
